EXCESSIVE PRICES FOR POTATOES (P.A.) Wellington, Aug. 2b Four greengrocers were tinea by Mr. Goulding. S.M., to-day £7 10s each, and a fifth £4, on a Price Tribunal prosecution for selling potatoes at a greater price than permitted. Mr. Goulding refused to heed defence submissions of what he termed more or less technical objections. Counsel had submitted that the cost of the potatoes had not been proved, nor in what area the potatoes were bought by inspectors, different prices being fixed lor different localities. Addressing the Court on the question of the penalty, counsel contended that the regulations were unreasonable and confusing.
