SKI SPORTS AT CHATEAU
UNFAVOURABLE CONDITIONS Reports from the Chateau Tongariro indicate that because of poor now conditions the Ruapehu Ski Club’s sports, which were to have begun on Thursday, have been postponed till to-day. If the position has not • mproved the sports may not be held till to-morrow. For several days conditions have been unsuitable and it has been *mpossible to ski below Club Hut. Special ski classes have been held in sheltered valleys. A blizzard whipped up the snow on Thursday and outdoor conditions were impossible for ski-ing. Officials of the club have been finding it difficult to plot a .course for the sports because high winds have made the snow glazed. Heavy snow fell earlier in the week near the Chateau, but most of it was subsequently blown away. Only about half the usual number of competitors are visiting the Chateau for the club’s sports this year, due to travel restrictions and other difficulties
