TRIALS FOR PUKEKOHE
ELLERSLIE TRACK WORK TOOLEY STREET INJURED There was little fast work at Elferslie on Tuesday morning when trainers had the use of the No. 2 grass track, which provided perfect going. A few horses were also schooled over hurdles in the centre. Bonnybelle was holding British Talent, although the latter showed a lot of speed at the end of half a mile in 50sec. Bonnybelle is in line order for her forthcoming engagements. Bronze Wing came home from the five furlong peg in 1.5 1-5, the last half-mile being covered in 50 4-5. This hack is also in good racing condition. Konneta and Ranier reeled off three furlongs in 37sec. It was a smart galop and Konneta impressed by her effort. Mai de Mer completed a round in 1.47 4-5, Royal Ace coming home with him over the last half mile in 51 1-5 sec, the final three furlongs taking 38sec. Wild Acre strode home from the five furlong peg easily in 1.10 4-5. Summary, after taking 13 l-ssec. for her first furlong, completed half a mile in 50 4-ssec. She had a bit in reserve at the finish. Captain Bruce, after commencing slowly over a round, ran his last seven furlongs in 1.40 4-ssec, and the final half-mile in 56sec. He was not bustled. While at Te Aroha on Saturday night Tooley Street was badly injured through being kicked by Miss Appellant and could not be started on Monday. It will be some time before he races again.
GAY OPAL’S GOOD EFFORT

PREPARATIONS FOR NAPIER
WORK ON HASTINGS TRACK Although there was some interesting work on the Hastings tracks on Tuesday morning for the semi-final gallops for Napier Park, there was not a great deal of clocked work, writes “The Barb.” All the work timed was done on the plough which, although in good order, was not fast. Laughing Song, who never worked more freely,, was very hard held Over three furlongs, yet she returned 42sec. Boatsong was not galloped, and since Woodville has had an easy time. He is putting on a little flesh, too, with his easy work. Classical and Quilp were together all the way over six furlongs run in 1.18:1, but Classical gave the impression of having the upper hand. Halley and Brunhild were tried out together over four fflrlongs to run that distance in 511 sec, but it was doubtful if either was doing his best. Imogen, who has been acquired by Mr. W. Henderson, of Waipukurau, has joined up with the rest of that sportman’s horses with W. Griffiths. The Siegfried filly will race in the tartan jacket at Napier. Arctic Queen and Le Tcuquet were companions over five furlongs, but the latter was not forced to do his best to finish alongside the filly in 67sec. Felicitation, after cantering once round the inside plough, was taken out on the plough and sprinted half a mile in 51isec, doing it well within herself. This mare is in great order. Fossicker had to bow to Royal Spades over five furlongs in a tick under 65sec. The latter looks well. Red Witch was given slow work, being times to come heme the last three furlongs in 38sec. She is very fit, and in all probability vylll take on the Cup on Saturday, although nothing definite has yet been settled. Greenore, in from the country, ran five furlongs alone in 66-lsec. He looks in better nick than when last raced here. Screen Lord wont dovvn narrowly to Kalika, who had the better of the weights, the inside running, and a break at the start of a length. The five furlongs took 6T 3-ssec. Parry did fairly well to register 1.19 for six furlongs.
