DOWN 50 PER CENT.

MEMBERSHIP OF LODGES RESULT OF SOCIAL SECURITY PLANS ( Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN. Feb. 28. Macfie, secretary of the A.O.F. in Otago, who stated that it was almost impossible fo enlist new members, the future of the friendly societies not being hopeful. During the first year after lhe announcement of the social security plans the membership roll was down 50 per cent., while resignations and cancellations were even higher. Facts that disturbed members were the obligation to pay the full wage tax and fear that the initial payment would later be increased.
