JEWISH PROTEST
PALESTINE PROPOSALS WILL NOT YIELD TO FORCE NO DENIAL OF RIGHTS (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) JERUSALEM, Feb. 27. Jewish meetings of protest last night against the British proposals passed resolutions to the effect that Jewry will not yield to force or to the stultification of minority status. The mayor of the Jewish centre at Tel Aviv has telegraphed to Mr. Chamberlain stating that the Jews will not accept denial of their rights, which are recognised all over the world.
MINISTER’S APPEAL
WITHHOLD JUDGMENT LONDON, Feb. 27. Replying to the Leader o£ the Opposition in the House of Commons, the Colonial Secretary (Mr. Malcolm MacDonald) said that he was not in a position to make a statement regarding the Palestine Conference. The British suggestions were still being discussed. Unfortunately, misleading Press reports of the substance of the proposals had caused serious incidents in Palestine. He appealed to the Press and theh public to withhold their judgment.
NAZI SYMPATHIES
ARABS AT HAIFA CHEERS AT CONSULATE JERUSALEM, Feb. 27. A crowd of Arabs visited the German Consulate at Haifa, loudly cheered, and gave the Hitler salute to the Consul when he appeared on the balcony.
WEEK-END OUTRAGES
MANY CASUALTIES BOMBS, LAND-MINES, AND SHOOTINGS Received Feb. 28, 5.5 p.m. JERUSALEM, Feb. 27. One British soldier was killed and two wounded in an engagement with armed Arabs south of Jaffa. It is officially stated that 14 separate bomb, land-mine, and shooting incidents occurred at the week-end in which 32 Arabs were killed and 50 injured and two Jews were injured. Three Arabs were killed and six injured in the explosion of a heavy bomb in the market place. A land mine exploded on the railway at Tel Aviv, but no damage was done. A number of Jewish extremists were arrested. All army units are standing by.
BELGIAN POLITICS
CABINET FORCED TO RESIGN. Received Feb. 28, 5.5 p.m. BRUSSELS, Feb. 27. The Pierlot Cabinet has resigned. The committee of the Socialist Party had previously decided against the proposals of the Finance Minister, who required as the first measure for the adjustment of the financial situation a 5 per cent, cut in the salaries of civil servants. The committee also declared that it was impossible to co-operate in a deflation policy.
