HELSINKI. —■ A marked in crease in the number of Finns emigrating to Sweden has been apparent recently. Those who go ft) work in the neighbouring country aro for the most part young persons, and nearly 75 per cent are women workers. The higher si lard of living in Sweden, especially among tho working classes, is thought to be responsible for this influx. Young Swedes prefer to work in the large cities and the factories but the Finnish population in Sweden find employment chiefly in agriculture, as'workers in the field, as dairymaids and housemaids. The Swedish Ministry for Social Affairs reports that the number of Finnish workers iu Sweden in 1936 was ibout 2500, and of these one third had :ome over in that year. During 1937 tome 800 new permits have been grantid in the period January to August, and :he tendency is to show a steady increase.
