LIVESTOCK MARKETS

BULLS EWE FAIR Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report on their annual ewe fair held at Bulls on Monday last before a large attendance of the public. There was a capac - ity yarding of approximately 4000 ewes, the quality being rather disappointing, the entry comprising principally aged ewes with only a few pens of two-tooths, four and five-year-old ewes. There was good competition for the two-tooths and five-year-olds at prices fully firm on late sales, but for the aged ewes competition was slack. Nevertheless, vendors were prepared to meet the market and we report practically a total clearance. Only a small entry of fat cattle were yarded. Competition was not very keen due to the fact that buyers were holding rather large supplies and prices can be quoted back 10s on the previous sale. Only a small entry of store cattle and pigs came to hand with no change in values. Prices were as follow: Two-tooth ewes, 23s 6d, 25s lOd, 26s 6d; five-year ewes, 15s, 16s, 17s; six-year ewes, 10s to 14s; aged ewes, 3s 1o 6s 6d; S.D. rams, 2 to 4gns.; b.f. lambs, 8s to 10s; cull sorts, from 4s; fat cows, £4 10s to £5 10s; vealers, £2; bulls, £4 15s; store cows, £2 10s to £3 ss; large store pigs, £2; weaners, 10s to 15s.
