TAIHAPE FIXTURE

■ 1 ST. PATRICK’S SPORTS. COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMME ARRANGED. Preliminary organisation for the annual St, Patrick's Day sports meeting, to be held this year on Saturday, March 18, is well in hand and the meeting promises to be one of the most successful of recent years. Endeavours are being made to secure the entries of athletes from many parts of the North Island and, so far, efforts in this direction have met with marked success. Amongst those who have already promised to compete are R. Ulmer (Wellington) and W. Pullar (Masterton). In the cycling an innovation this year is the increasingly popular laprace in which the prizes, instead of being awarded to the ultimate winner of the race, are allotted to the winner of certain laps. The lap to carry “the money” are indicated by means of flags while the race is in progress. It is, therefore, to the advantage of each competitor to keep as near the front as possible during the race, in anticipation of sprinting the next lap for a prize. The following officials have, so far, been appointee! to act on the day of the sports: —Grounds marshal, Mr. J. Stead; referee, Mr. A. James; starter, Mr. T. V. Auld; timekeepers, Messrs. H. D. Band and H. Dashwood; handicappers, Messrs. J. Tierney and D. Treadwell. Controller. —Running and cycling events: Messrs. C. Cherry and V. Nicholls. Horse events: Messrs. H. Hintz and A. Thurston. Children's events: Messrs. F. Wand, R. C. Ongley and R. Spence. Stewards. —Track: Messrs. J. Graham, F. Ward, J. Guilliard, C. H. Transon. Marks: Messrs. J. Graham, H. D. Grey. Laps: Mr. R. Spence. Judges, running and cycling: Messrs. Rush, R. C. Ongley, J. Bridson. Announcer, Mr. R. Spence. Protest Committee. —Messrs. A. James, H. Hintz, E. P. Duncan, J. Quirk, senr. Box Office—Messrs. G. Loader, J. Quirk, senr.
