INCREASED PRODUCTION

PRIME MINISTER’S PLEA TO WORKERS COUNTRY WILL FAIL IF IT IS NOT ACHIEVED [ Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Feb. 28. That there were two sides to the achievement of increased production was stressed by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, and the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, in addresses to workers during the continuation of their visits to Wellington factories. Those two sides, they said, were those of the worker and the employer and only through co-opera-tion and work leading to greater output could they mutually benefit. Mr. Savage, in an address to employees of one factory, said the Government was asking for increased production in order to make up the margin created by the import control and unless that increased production was achieved the Government and the country were going to fail. If success was achieved, workers, as well as the employers, were going to receive a share of that increased production. Mr. Sullivan stated: “We are changing the policy in New Zealand. We are trying to build an industrial nation in the South Seas. We see no reason why we should not build New Zealand into a great manufacturing country in which there will always be work and wages, so there will never again be a repetition of the conditions from 1931 to 1935, when so many were out of work.”
