HIS SALE STILL POSSIBLE MELBOURNE, Feb. 27. Sporting writers give the highest praise to Ajax’s performance in winning the Futurity Stakes in a downpour of rain and on a sodden track, while carrying the record weight for a four-year-old of 10.6. It is his sixteenth successive win. and his stakewinnings now amount to £27,475. The Daily Telegraph says: “Ajax’s brilliant win in the Futurity Stakes may result in his purchase for racing and stud purposes in America. Mr. E. K. Thornton, a steward of the Riverside Jockey Club. Kansas City, who is visiting Australia to report officially for several United States clubs on racing and horses in this country, said that Ajax is 201 b. better than any horse on American tracks and was worth every penny of the £50,000 asked for him. Mr. E. L. Mollieu, one of Ajax’s part-owners, said tha the horse is still for sale if anyone is prepared to pay the price.”
