Miss Crichton Imrie was the speaker at yesterday’s luncheon of the Wanganui Rotary Club, her subject being Java.
Mr. D. Burdett, main highways traffic inspector, of Wanganui, has received notice of his tranfer to Greymouth.
Captain J. W. McLeod, of New Plymouth, has been appointed bandmaster of the Palmerston North Silver Band.
Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, who has been attending the conference of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association, has returned to Wellington.
Mr. W. M. Falconer of Wanganui, was a visitor to Palmerston North yesterday. . He attended the conference of the New Zealand Accountants' Society.
Mr. 11. R. c. Wild, LLM., has been appointed lecturer in law subjects for the B.Com. and accountancy course by the Victoria University College Council.
Mr. W. A. Cameron, Collector of Customs at Wanganui, after 40 years’ service, is to retire on superannuation at the end Of March. He is retiring at his own request.
Group Captain A. A. Cochrane, Chief of the New Zealand Air Stall, and his successor, Group Captain W. L. Saunders, who were visitors to Wanganui on Sunday night, left for Palmerston North and Wellington by aeroplane yesterday morning.
Mr. J. Brine has returned to Wanganui after a fortnight's absence in the South Island. During his tout he met. officers of the St. John Ambulance Brigade in Dunedin, where he also had conference with tile chief commissioner, Colonel G. Barclay.
The New Zealand Cricket Council has appointed Mr. J. H. Phillips, chair man of the Wellington Cricket Association, as manager of the New Zealand cricket team during its stay in Wellington for a match with Sir Julien Cahn’s team, states a Press Association message.
The Rev. T. C. Symons, who has been appointed senior youth director of the Methodist Cnurch of New Zealand, will be stationed at Wellington. Mr. A. E. Bate and the Rev. M. A. McDowell, directors for the Northern District and South Island respectively, will have their headquarters at Auckland and Christchurch.
Mr. 11. R. Fisher, who retired from the service of the Wellington Education Board last year, and who was for some years chief assistant at the Clyde Quay School under the late Mr, W. T. Grundy, will leave for Sydney this week to connect with the Stratiiallan for England. He will join his wife and son in England, where ne intends to settle permanently.
Adjutant A. Chandler, who for the last three years has been assistant divisional commander of the Christchurch Division of the Salvation Army, has been transferred to Auckland. Adjutant Chandler, who is well-known as "Skipper, ’ of 3YA. will leave with his wife and family for the north to-day.
After 40 years’ service, Mr. A. Bice, superintendent of the telegraph branch at the Auckland Chief Post Office, retired on Friday on superannuation. At different periods, Mr. Bice has acted as deputy-chief postmaster at Auckland. When telegraphist at Christchurch he was transferred in 1918 to Blenheim as superintendent of the telegraphic branch. In 1919 he was made repeater superintendent at Blenheim, and in 1920 he was appointed superintendent of the telegraph branch at Wellington. He became officer in charge of the teleyhone exchange in Christchurch, and in 1930 he was transferred to Auckland. For a long period Mr. Bice was actively associated with Hie Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association.
