RANGITIKEI CRICKET

BOTH TAIHAPE TEAMS WIN (Own Correspondent). Saturday’s games saw the three Marton teams go under, all losing on .he first innings. Against Taihape Town Porewa collected 126 run, thanks to a bright knock of 56 by A. Marshall. Revell (five for 26) had the batsmen tied up with his slow bowling. In Taihape's reply T. Whittle (65) gave a fine display and, along with D. Coleman (35), ■wiped to give Taihape the victory. At Hunterville the home team batted first on a bumpy wicket and a very fast outfield. P. Holford (35) was responsible for putting Hunterville in a good position, his score including eight 4's. Parkes and Louden shared the bowling honours. Louden's figures reading three for 45 a.nd four for six. Marton started off well in their reply but with Baker (six for 38) bowling fast, with the sun behind him, the tail-enders were demoralised, no less than five ducks going on the board. Hunterville went to the crease .gain and were all out at six o'clock for 93. leaving Marton half an hour in which to get 123 runs to win. At tumps they had lost four wickets for 64. At Marton Old Boys batted first, compiling 120, of which H. Lambert (28> and Beechey (28) were to[>Iscorers. For the Railway team Fleet \ (66) repeated last week's perform- : ance, hitting out at all the bowling. Railway were thus able to pass Old i Boys' total comfortably. Old Boys tried eight bowlers. Jolly (two for |4O) returning best figures. Details:— TAIHAPE v. POREWA Porewa A. B. Marshall, c and b Revell 56 P. Chapman, b Transom 5 H. Marshall, b Coleman 11 C. R. Simpson, c and b Revell 8 J.
