PATEA FUNCTIONS

FAREWELL PARTY (Own Correspondent). PATEA, Feb. 27. Mr. and Mrs. N. R. Coad entertained recently to a farewell Messrs. Don Morgan and Mervyn Haines, who have left Patea for Palmerston North. Mrs. Coad received her guests wearing a smart gown of Windsor blue cloque with baroque gold spray, and assisting her were her daughters Minnie and Audrey, who were wearing floral frocks of green and tangerine respectively. Mrs. Jenkins provided music for dancing, and games and community singing were enjoyed, interspersed with items by Messrs. Jennings and Woodcock. Mr. Coad made the presentation of a suitcase and fountain pen and pencil to the guests of honour, expressing regret at their departure. “Auld Lang Syne" concluded the evening. GUIDES AND SCOUTS Founders’ Day, in commemoration of the birthday of Lord Baden-Powell, was observed on Sunday, Guides Brownies, Scouts and Cubs attending a service in the Domain, conducted by Rev. W. H. Walton, assisted by Rev. E. Francis Farr, 8.A., and Rev. R. Patchett. The order of the service was: Reception of colours; hymn, “Onward Christian Soldiers'; Guides prayer for Guides and Brownies; Scouts’ prayer for Scouts and Cubs; “The Lord’s Prayer”; lesson; hymn, "Land of Our Birth"; address, Rev. W. H. Walton; symn, “Far Round the World"; colours returned; Guides’. Brownies’, Scouts' and Cubs’ promise, i prayer and Benediction; The Naj tional Anthem.

Rev. W. H. Walton thanked the band for attending and playing the hymns.
