POSTAL NOTES OVERSEAS

Sir, —In your issue o£ February 11 you publish a small article under the heading “Small Postal Note.” Would you be good enough to publish the following story which the writer, now visiting New Zealand, can vouch for:— A New Zealand friend visiting Sydney, made a purchase at a Sydney store which was to be delivered to her hotel before she left to catch the boat on her return to New Zealand. Owing to sonic mistake the delivery was delayed and my friend left Sydney without the goods. The firm in question sent her a postal note (which, by thr way, have printed on them) “not negotiable outside the Commonwealth." After trying unsuccessfully to cash same in New Zealand, she for warded to me with a request to kee[ the amount should I succeed in getting a refund. It was necessary for me t< see the C.P.M., G.P.O. Sydney, ant give a full explanation before I re ceived the cash value. Evidently New Zealand pdStal notes are not negoti able outside New Zealand. A money order would not present any difficulty —I am, etc., “THE OTHER SIDE."
