A PLEASANT DAY

FASHION, AT RACES VARIETY OF STYLES Once again on Saturday the racecourse was the meeting place for a happy crowd of racegoers, who found much interest and excitement provided for them in the final of the Wanganui Jockey Club’s autumn meeting. The day was beautifully fine with a light wind blowing, making conditions enjoyable for the gathering.

Every toning in colours that are at present the vogue, was to be seen on the lawn. The new copper, forest green, vivid stripes and dahlia shades found harmonious company in the many navy blues, black and brown shades. In the matter of hats, the variety of styles was almost bewildering. High pointed crowns, halo hats, tiny close-fitting styles, wide brimmed hats, little cap-like hats with flowers or a feather poised on the front, witch hats, and others which took their inspiration from Edwardian days, also Bretons. Shoes and gloves were smart and generally matched the ensemble. Several luxurious fur capes were noted, also silver fox, golden and blue fox were among the wraps worn. Sprays of autumn berries and flowers gave a gay effect to ensembles and suits. Among those present were:— Mrs. Hugh Speed, wife of the president, who was gowned in a model black frock attractively pin-tucked, large black ballibuntal straw hat trimmed in black and white, silver fox furs; Mrs. H.
