LAMB MARKET WEAK
LITTLE CHANGE IN MUTTON PRICES CHILLED BEEF CHEAPER Lamb market: Prices again shade easier but demand is improving at the lower prices. Mutton market: Wethers and ewes, lightweight prices unchanged, others lowre. Trade remains slow. Beef market: Chilled beef prices lower this week on the slow trade because of heavier supplies. New Zealand porker pigs: Quiet, with prices unchanged. New Zealand baconer pigs: Market quiet and unchanged. The above report was received by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned and are for representative parcels of the goods sold on Thursday. Chilled beef prices are averages of the week. All prices are on the basis of delivered to Smithfield Market. Prices for the previous week are shown in parentheses:— New Zealand sheep: Crossbred wethers and—or maiden ewes, 481 b and under, 4 5-8 d (4 5-8 d); 491 b to 561 b, 33d (33d); 571 b to 641 b, 33d (3 5-8 d); 651 b to 721 b, 33d (3 5-8 d). There is no sign of improvement in the market, which continues very unsatisfactorily all round, says a cable message received by Levin and Co., Ltd., from their London agents. Compared with last week's quotations, Down lambs. 281 b to 361 b, l-8d a lb lower; crossbred lambs, 281 b to 361 b, l-8d a lb lower; wethers, 561 b to 721 b, 3d a lb lower: ewes, 481 b to 561 b. and 641 b to 721 b, l-8d a lb lower; 561 b to 641 b. Id lower, others unchanged. Cathie, Dempster and Co., Ltd., have received the following cabled report from Sheed, Thomson and Co., Ltd.:—Lambs: Market steady. Wethers: Market continues slow. Ewes: Market continues slow. Beef: Market quiet. Porkers: Market steady. Baconers: Market steady. Henry S. Fitter and Sons, Ltd., have received the following report from their London office Lambs: There is a fair demand; large supplies due shortly having a weakening effect on the market. Wethers: The market is dull, with a downward tendency. Ewes: The demand is moderate, with prices a little lower. Chilled beef: Larger supplies have caused prices to weaken. Pork: The market is steady, and no material change expected yet. Trade generally is quiet.
