WANGANUI METHODIST CHURCHES

NEW MINISTERS i REV. R. DUDLEY LEAVING CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 25. Changes in ministers in Methodist churches in Wanganui were approved at the Methodist Conference in Christchurch yesterday. The Rev. E. B. Chambers, of Invercargill, is to succeed the Rev. R. Dudley at Trinity Church, Wanganui. Mr. . Dudley is going to Durham Street Methodist Church, Christchurch. Mr. Chambers has had a very suc- . cessful career in the ministry. Fifteen or 16 years ago he was stationed in Inglewood, and since then has held appointments in Whangarei and Christchurch. He possesses a good bass singing voice and will be an acquisition to the musical comrfiunity in Wanganui. He is a married man with a family and his wife is an active church worker. Mr. Dudley, who was educated at Trinity College, Auckland, went to Wanganui seven years ago, as successor to the Rev. E. T. Cox, and has been one of the most successful ministers in the Methodist Church, also taking part in the civic activities of the community. During the depression period he did, valuable work as a member of the Mayor's Relief Com-

mittee. He was also an enthusiastic worker for the Youths’ Afforestation Camp at Kaitoke. He is popular among both young people and adults in all sections of the community. Mr. Dudley is a single man, but it is understood that he is to be married in Auckland before going to Christchurch. Durham Street Church is regarded as the cathedral of Methodism in New Zealand, and is probably the finest appointment it is possible for a young minister to have. The Rev. C. E. Dickens, who is going to Gonville Methodist Church, is stationed at Reefton and before going there was stationed in Johnsonville circuit. He is a young man. Mr. B. Barnett, who will be engaged in home missionary work in Wanganui, is a young man and a student probationer. He came originally from New Plymouth, and will be assisting at Wanganui North circuit, which will include Wanganui East and Dublin Street, under the supervision of the Rev. J. F. Martin. The Rev. C. W. Brown, who has been carrying on home missionary work in Wanganui, has been an active worker for over 30. He is retiring to live in Auckland, and has been appointed a member of the Home Mission Board in Auckland in recognition of his fine service.
