BRILLIANT INNINGS
KERR OUTSTANDING SIR JULIEN CAHN’S TEAM AT CHRISTCHURCH CANTERBURY’S GOOD SCORE [Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 24.
A brilliant innings by J. L. Kerr, the Canterbury captain, was the outstanding performance in the first day's play in the cricket match between Sir Julien Cahn's touring team and Canterbury, which was commenced at Lancaster Park to-day. His display was reminiscent of the brilliant form he displayed a few years ago, which made him one of the outstanding batsmen in the Dominion. At the end of the day's play, Canterbury had made 415 for the loss of eight wickets, and if the high scoring continues it will be very doubtful it the match can be finished in three days. Others who batted well were R. E. J. Menzies and I. B. Cromb. On the easy wicket, none of the Canterbury batsmen found the bowling really difficult, and only one so far has not reached double figures. The wicket was made for batsmen, and the bowlers had a hard job keeping the runs down.
The weather was brilliantly fine, with a light breeze from thA northeast, and there was a good crowd present considering that it was an off day. The gate takings were £l2O. The scores were:— Canterbury First Innings J. L. Kerr, lbw, b Walsh 124 M. P. Donnelly, c Dempster, b
