PATEA BOROUGH

RATING ON FARM LANDS (Own Correspondent). PATEA, Feb. 24. At a special meeting of the Borough Council on Wednesday, the town clerk reported that, a demand had been received from Messrs. Treadweii, Gordon, Treadwell and Haggitt, as solicitors and authorised agents cf Mr. Leonard Honeyfield, for the preparation of a farm land list for the borough in terms of Section 3 of "'I he Urban Farm Lands Rating Act, 1932.” The town clerk explained that Patea was the only borough in New 'Zealand rating on annual value, {where a petition for the preparation of a farm land list for the borough interms of Section 3 of "The Urban I Farm Lands and Rating Act, 1932” j had been presented. It was for the council to say which of the sections •mentioned in the list were bona fide • farm lands and which were not. Ihe council had also to consider whether the lands which were deemed to be farm lands were entitled to any relief by way of reduction in the annual .value, taking into consideration the rates paid and the services available to the property. If the council !made any reduction it would have to consider what the effect would be on the other ratepayers. If it considered the effect would impose ar. undue burden on the rest of the ratepayers it would have to adjust its reductions accordingly. After consideration it. was decided that the following be classed as bona fide farm lands:—Section 6 pt. 7, 103 acres. K. Sharp: pt. sec. 8 (Patea), 28 acres, I. C. Cowie; sec. 9, 19 acres. I. Honeyfield; sec. 18. 16 acres, Mrs. A. Boyle; pt. sec. 19. 21, 43 acres, S. Mcßae; pt. sec. 19, 55, 66. 124 acres, D. Dwyer; pt. sec. 20, 6 acres, i Honeyfield: sec. 22, 10 acres, W. J. Pascoe: sec. 23, 13 acres, J. C. Cowie, sec. 14. 17 acres. C. C. Hamblyn; pt. sec. 26-7. 30-1. 24 acres, I. C. Cowie; sec. 39, 8 acres, D. W. Ansley; secs. 50-4, 295 acres, L. •Honeyfield; pt. sec. 73, 113 acres, Patea Butchery; pt. sec. 73, 16 acres, A. McKenna; sec. 75. 16 acres, E. L. Whitehead; pt. sec. 24, 28, 28, 11 acres, Est. J. G. Beamish. It was unanimously decided that no alterations be made to the annual values as confirmed by the Assessment Court recently. The Main Highways Board approved the plans of the tar-sealing oi the Beach Road and it was decided ■to call tenders immediately.
