FITNESS M EEK BIG DAY ON MARCH 2 The early morning parades, which are a feature of Physical Fitness Week, have proved both enjoyable and health giving and those participating in the physical drill have ex-
pressed a wish that the exercises be continued beyond Fitness Week. People of all ages and both sexes have turned up regularly at 7 o’clock each morning to "do their stuff,” and the keenness and enthusiasm displayed is a happy augury for the future. A large crowd assembled on the Domain on Monday evening to indulge in open-air dancing on the green and community singing. The innovation proved most popular. The Taihape Municipal Band was in attendance and played for several of the dances. Miss V. Montgomery was the pianist for the community singing and also provided the music for some of the dances. Mr. C. A. McLaren led the community singing and filled a difficult role with commendable efficiency. The programme will be repeated on Friday evening (February 24). when it is hoped that another large crowd will be present to participate in the pleasures of the occasion. Twilight sports were held on Tuesday evening, when an interesting programme was presented, including races for committeemen, cycle trainers and others who do not usually indulge in active participation in track events. The number of cycle trainers who turned out for their event greatly 1 exceeded the number of cyclists' in | Taihape, so that some of the cycle riders must have more than one trainer. A further twilight meeting for unregistered and registered athletes will be held on Friday evening, when “has beens” will have the opportunity of competing with presentday athletes. The meeting will be followed by open-air dancing and community singing. Preparations are well in hand for March 2, which is the big day of Physical Fitness Week. A monster programme have been arranged for the occasion, which will be a fitting finale to a movement that is deserving ,of a larg« measure of public support.
