MAYOR EXPRESSES THANKS
PHYSICAL FITNESS WEEK VALUE OF CO-OPERATION “I am doubly proud to be Mayor on such an occasion and realise the ready response and co-operative spirit which has been shown to mark Physical Fitness Week in Wanganui,” said Mr. W. J. Rogers, at Cook’s Gardens last night, with reference to the display, attendance of the public, and the work of those responsible. He was supported in his remarks by Mr. J. B. Cotterill, M.P. for Wanganui, who
said that what had been achieved on this occasion would be a guiding influence for more activity of such a nature. “Thanks to general committee and the sub-committee, in particular, for arranging this evening’s procession and demonstration,” said Mr. Rogers. “The chief marshal, Colonel Turnbull, and his assistants, the Automobile Association, and Mr. K. Lambert, for his patrol car and loud-speaker equipment all helped materially. Xll the sports organisations and kindred bodies, performers and the bands, all rendered a service of great value to | the community, and one culminating |in a demonstration which probably has never been excelled in the city on any past occasion. To-night’s parade alone illustrates the interest and cooperation which has been extended by all the bodies mentioned to the City Council in this great civic effort to fittingly celebrate Physical Fitness Week.”' Mr. Cotterill said that the development of physical fitness meant good for the whole community and he commended the advice stressed by the activities of the week to public in general.
