TAIHAPE SHOW
POPULAR ANNUAL EVENT LARGE ATTENDANCE OF PUBLIC (Own Correspondent). TAIHAPE, Feb. 23. All roads led to the Taihape Recreation Ground to-day, for the 28th. annual show of the Rangitikei Agricultural and Pastoral Association, which was held in gloriously fine weather. Entries totalled about 1180, which is practically the same as last year. The figures revealed an increase in the draught horse section, cattle classes, pig section, horse jumping, competitions and home industries, the increase in the cookery classes being a feature of the show. The horse jumping competitions were exceptionally well patronised and attracted much attention, a high standard being attained in each event, the judge, Mr. C. H. Washer, of Hawera, being most impressed. Owing to adverse weather conditions. entries in the vegetable section showed a decrease.
In the Romney and Southdown sheep classes some particularly fine animals were shown, the champion Romney ram shown by Mr. A. R. Fannin, and the champion Romney ewe exhibited by J. E. Collins (Taoroa) are worthy of special mention. as are also the champion Southdown ram (natural condition) displayed by G. L. Marshall (Marton) and the champion Southdown ram (open class) exhibited by D. R. Gordon (Taoroa). The champion Southdown ewe and reserve champion were both exhibited by J. T. Duncan (Taoroa). both ewes being the subject of the favourable comment by the judge.
The Taihape Band was in attendance and contributed musical selections at intervals.
