WRECK OF STEAMER BELBOWRIE

FINDING OF MARINE COURT. NO NEGLIGENCE ATTRIBUTED TO ANYONE ON BOARD. SYDNEY, Feb. 23. The Marine Court recorded the following finding:— “We are unable to state with any confidence the cause leading up to the wreck of the coastal steamer Belbowrie off Maroubra on the night of January 16. Therefore no negligence can be attributed to anyone on board.” The master of the Belbowrie had wirelessed on January 17 that the ship had run on a reef off Maroubra Point, and Urgently required help. The pilot vessel, Captain Cook, immmediately went to the scene, about 4 miles south of the Heads, and the crew were rescued by making their way hand over hand along a rope through 60 feet of boiling surf to the shore. Finally the Belbowrie, a wooden vessel ot 218 tons, broke in two and became a total loss.
