Meteorological Office, Wellington, Thursday, Feb. 23, 3 p.m. General Situation.—Pressure is still high over New Zealand, especially the North Island, but has fallen over south-eastern Australia. Forecast.—Winds: Variable at first in far North, otherwise northwesterlies to northerlies prevailing, strong in Cook Strait and the far South, otherwise light to moderate but gradually freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough to rough in Cook and Foveaux Strait areas, elsewhere slight to moderate but later rising on the west coast of the South Island. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate but freshening north-west to northerly winds. Weather: Fair to fine at first but clouding over and rain gradually developing in Westland and the far South and becoming more widespread during the latter part of the week. Temperatures rising. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John's Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 10 hours 50 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Temperature: Maximum, 73deg. Fahr.; minimum, 46deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 7.14 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 5.55 a.m. Phases of the Moon for February:—Full Moon, February 4; Last Quarter, February 10; New Moon, February 19; First Quarter, February 26.
