A DESPERATE FINISH YESTERDAY: In the Victory Hack Handicap, for apprentice riders, at the Wanganui Jockey Club’s meeting yesterday, the judge was unable to separate the leaders as three horses flashed past the post locked together. The illustration shows Red Witch (outside) and Morning Flight (middle), who dead-heated, and Mataroa (inside) only half ahead away, a stride past the post. Amatory, with only his hindquarters and his jockey’s head "and shoulders showing, is on the rails behind Mataroa, followed by Dark Engle (outside) and Golden Orchid.
