GROUP INSTITUTE MEETING AT BULLS

The half-yearly group meeting of the Women's Institutes was held in Bulls on February 20. Mrs. Huddleston was in the chair, and Mrs. Franke was convener. There was a large attendance of members and visitors, whom Mrs. Huddleston warmly welcomed.

An invitation was extended by the Marton Institute to hold the next group meeting in Marton, Mrs. Slight to occupy the chair, and Mrs. Watts to be convener. Competitions to be: Eggless fruit cake, tea cosy, and "something new from something old, trimming not to cost more than one shilling.” A suggestion for a “sixpenny bring and buy” for next group meeting was carried unanimously. The roil call was answered by Bulls, Halcombe, Marton Junction, Ohakea, Parewanui, Sanson and Stanway. Mrs. Bowater spoke on the drama circle, and urged ail institutes to form a club. The social part of the programme was very enjoyable. Those taking part were:—Marton Junction Institute, play, "Miss Flipper’s Holiday”; Sanson Institute, play, “Phoebe Rebels”; tap dance, Miss Dawn Managh; and a travel talk by Mrs. Gregory. The Bulls glee singers contributed items, and Mrs. Humphrey gave a very interesting demonstration of crochet cushion work. In conclusion Mrs. Bowater returned thanks to the chair, the judges, and others, and Mrs. Gregory complimented the Sanson Institute members on their fine effort in the play produced. Competitions resulted as follows: Marble cake, Mrs. Edwards (Bulls) 1. Mrs. Torray (Marton Junction) 2, Mrs. Hart (Marton Junction) 3; sock, Miss F. Palmer (Ohakea) 1, Mrs. Frecklington (Ohakea) 2, Mrs. lorrey (Marton Junction) 3; tray cloth, Miss A. Vile (Stanway) 1, Mrs. Franke (Marton Junction) 2, Miss J. Murray (Ohakea) 3.
