Dancing, one of the oldest art known to mankind, offers a pleasan solution to the problem of holdini the interest, since it has long beei recognised as being of the utmos

value as physical exercise. Rhythm, it will be noticed, has been introduced to an increasing extent into purely physical exercises, and it can be expected that this relaxation will be much in favour when ! its value in fitness is generally appre--Iciated. If children are fortunate enougn io receive modern dancing tuition, they are not only taught a delightful exercise, but automatically acquire poise and grace of carriage, which combine to give self-confidence without self-consciousness a valuaole asset. The dancing season is already open, and the signs are that both young ana old are taking a keen interest in an art which is as old as time itself. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE MEETING AT HUNTERVILLE The monthly meeting of the Huntcrville Women's Institute was held in the Presbyterian Hall on February 1, Mrs. R. A. Gordon presiding over a fair attendance. The meeting opened with the Ode and the Creed. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and also the financial statement. Correspondence was read and one new member enrolled. Nominations were taken for the new committee as the annual meeting takes place on March 1. Mrs. Gordon demonstrated novelty jug covers. Afternoon tea was then served, followed by the social halfI hour. Guessing competitions were I won by Mrs. Scally and Mrs. Moore. Novelty from peanuts: Mrs. Knuth. | Prettiest slip: Mrs. W. Shindler. ■ Premier bloom: Mrs. Knuth. The meeting was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem. RUAPEHU FEDERATION. FORMATION AT PIPIRIKI. On Saturday, February 18, a pally of ladies from the Ruapehu Federation of the Women's Institute journeyed to Pipiriki to form a branch of the Women's Institute. Mrs. Speedy, Taihape, explained the aims and objects ot the movement. At the conclusion of here address, it was decided to form a branch to be called the Pipiriki Women's Institute. Mrs Angus Wright was elected president, Mrs. Wm. Templeton secretary, Mrs A. Anderson treasurer and Mesd.tmes Chenery. McKenzie, Young, Gray. Tepeke and J. Henare wire elected to the committee. Mrs. Dellow, Taihape. then spoke to the newly formed branch and wished it all success. Prior to afternoon tea being served. Mr.;. Wright presented to each of the visitors a posy, made from houhi by Mrs. .1 Henare. The visitors were entertained with Maori songs and pois by Mesdames A. Wr.ght. R. Gray and Misses Sally Pot aka and Kahu Tauri. Mrs. Tuk Wright kindly played the accompaniments.

The meeting terminated with the singing of “God Save the King.”

The first meeting will be held on March 11.
