GAIETIES’ TOUR

I WANGANUI RETURN SEASON OPERA HOUSE ON SATURDAY Mr. Stanley McKay, whose company’s annual visits to New Zealand are eagerly looked forward to, is to present his new “Gaieties” vaudeville and revue company at the Opera House for a return season on Saturday. The new show has already made a big impression on Wanganui audiences, being regarded as the best and ■ most versatile combination of variety artists Mr. McKay has organised. The comedy, always a strong point in the . Gaieties revues, is in the capable hands of Stan Foley, who has just completed a two years’ starring engagement at the Theatre Royal, Brisbane. and Alec McKinnon, the talented little Scotch comedian from Glasgow. Singing is featured by Stella Collier, soprano, and Barry Ross, baritone, who are to appear in delightful song scenas assisted by the beauty ballet. The specialities are many and varied, with George Hurd, the international Royal command juggling star, heading the list. Hurd has had the honour of appearing before the late King George, Queen Mary and the present King and Q’ueen at the Alhambra, London, and Windsor Castle. Others of outstanding merit are Scotty and Dolly, Australia’s famous dancing duo; Nellie Kolle, famous male impersonator’ Stella Lamond, brilliant personality girl: San Remos Duo, remarkable hand balancers: Assum. Pekoe. Souchon and Congo, acrobatic clowns; Max Reddy, comedian: Dolly Donoghue, solo dancer; and Snowy Towers, clever mimic of screen stars. In addition to the principals there are the pretty girls of the “Gaieties” ballet, May Brooker’s orchestra, beautiful dressing, elaborate scenery and the latest in lighting. The company opened its Taranaki tour at Eltham on Saturday last, when a large audience was delighted with the splendid and varied entertainment provided by the talented performers. Perhaps the outstanding performance was given by George Hurd, the international Royal command juggling star. His act has to be seen to he believed.
