TAWHERO CLUB ANNUAL MEETING HELD ELECTION OF OFFICERS The annual meeting of members of the Tawhero Golf Club was held on Tuesday night in the Cosmopolitan Club rooms, when there was a good attendance of members. It was disclosed that a very satisfactory season had been experienced. The president’s report was as follows:—“The season ends with a marked increase in membership. Our first, season, three years ago, started with eight members, with 30 by the end of the year, and 53 at the conclusion of the second year. It has reached nearly 80 this year. We hope to have 100 this season. Our annual social and dance was a great success, and mem.bers have been asking for more such evenings in the coming season, which the committee will endeavour to arrange. Tawhero won the D.C.L. Whisky Cup after a series of matches with Wangaehu, and it is hoped to arrange inter-club matches with Makirikiri, Fordell, and Wangaehu through the coming season. The vice-presi-dent retains the shield after winning the first match, the second match being a drew. We have presented 64 trophies, and 25 cups, including 10 annual cups during the year. Championships were won as follows: Ladies’ Section: —Senior Championship: Miss Temperton; runner-up, Mrs. Bonner. Intermediate Championship: Miss Poole; runner-up, Mrs. Temperton. Junior Championship: Miss Riley; runner-up, Miss Peterson. Aggregate Cup: Mrs. Bonner.
Men’s Section:—Senior Championship: J. Karaitiana; runner-up, M. Copley. Intermediate Championship: O. Francis; runner-up, Mr. Moulin. Junior Championship: B. Mclntyre; runner-up, B. Stroud. Aggregate Cup: E. Done. “The club had a severe setback financially mid-way through the season,” continued the president, “but, thanks to the fine co-operation of the committee, we are again in a sound financial position. I wish to take this opportunity of thanking the committee for their co-operation during the season, and the way they have helped to make Tawhero the successful club it is. We have to thank the ladies for their valuable assistance on many occasions, and Mr. McMillan is thanked for the many ways in which he has assisted the club. Thanks are due to the City Council for the way they
have kept the greens, fairways and links in general. The land the council has recently purchased will give us a full 9-hole course, or perhaps 12 holes. This will minimise congestion, and should prove beneficial to club members. I desire also to thank ail
members for their loyal co-operation, and I trust they will enjoy the privileges of the club for the coming season. The Press is thanked for the willingness with which it has featured the activities of the club. In conclusion I would like to place on record the very able manner in which our secretary has carried out his duties. The affairs of the club are in a very satisfactory condition, and the committee hope its successors will have as pleasant a term as the one just ended.” The following trophies were presented: —Mr. Karaitiana was presented with a special cup, in recognition of his having won the senior chamnionship three years in succession.
Other trophies were to Miss Poole, Mrs. Saltinstall, Miss Leyland, Messrs. Heald, Moulin, Sparks, Karaitiana, Saltinstall and Merrie. The club made a presentation to Mrs. McMillan for her kindness to club members. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. J. Saltinstall was re-elected unopposed for his fourth year of office; vice-president, Mr. J. Karaitiana: secretary, Mr. T. Merrie was re-elected; treasurer, Mr. W. May, re-elected; auditor, Mr. J.
