RANGITIKEI SCHOOLS’ SPORTS ASSOCIATION

(Own Correspondent.) MARTON, Feb. 21. The annual meeting of the Rangitikei Schools’ Sports Association was held oji Monday evening, Mr. Guy Thomson presiding over Messrs. A. W. Tucker, G. M. Ruscoe, T. B. Jackson, W. R. McNab, T. C. Ward, (Dr.) R. A. Church, E. A. Blomfield, E. R. Klitscher, J. Conlan, B. A. Rodgers, J. Mainwaring, G. R. Thomas and P. H. Hall (hon. secretary and treasurer). Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted: — President, Mr. A. S. Coleman; vicepresidents, Messrs. A. H. Griffiin, H. W. Smith, L. G. Morris. F. Gabites, W. J. Mogridge, W. E. Simpson, G. Thomson (Dr.) R. A. Church, and F. A. Hempieman; secretary and treasurer, Mr. P. H. Hall (M. Hall tendered his resignation but nobody to fill the essential office was forthcoming) and Mr. Hall’s resignation had been accepted with regret. The chairman paid tribute to Mr. Hall’s long and valued services since the inception of the association. He moved that appreciation be recorded in the minutes. This was seconded by Dr. Church and carried by acclamation. It was decided to hold the annual combined sports for the Peace and Morris Shields on Wednesday, March 8. entries to be in by Wednesday. March 1. It was decided to extend invitations to Makohau, Paranui and Putorino Schools to take part in the Morris (junior) Shield competition!!, it being pointed out that the association was formed to encourage the widest possible competition. The meeting adopted the programme as followed last year, with minor alterations to distances in some of the events, all boys’ races formerly 100 yards being reduced to 75 yards. Events for pupils of 15 years and over were deleted and events for 14-year-olds were altered to include those over that age. Four overhead-ball team events were added to the Peace Shield programme—senior and junior for boys and girls, teams to consist of 10: and one similar combined event to the Morris Shield programme, teams of eight. It was decided to run the relay events on a continuous or circular course. It was decided to delete the school registratio-n fee from the rules and conditions. A commencement, was then made with organisation for the sports, and committees were appointed. The quota committee is to meet next Monday evening, and a genera] meeting wiil be held on the Monday night before the sports.
