ON TRENTHAM TRACKS
WANGANUI TRIALS HORSES AND RIDERS Trentham stables will have nine representatives at the Wanganui meeting this week, and several of them are well enough forward to give good accounts of themselves, writes “Ran- , gatira” in the Evening Post. T. R , George will be taking five (Trebor, ‘ Ruling Star, Lady Drake, Pearl o! Asia, and Drachma), J. W. Lowe • three (Dissipation, Phil, and Royal Huntress), and H. B. Lorigan one (Siegmund). The weather was fine for the galloping yesterday morning, and the plough track was exceptionally last. Siegmund, who looks even better than when he left for Woodville, was given light pacing only. It is possible that H. N. Wiggins will be on him in the Wanganui Cup. His Woodville pilots, W. J. Broughton and G. R. Tattersall, will be riding Rustem anu Brazen King respectively in the race. Ruling Star (A. E. Bennet) ran an easy half-mile in 53sec. He will have the services of S. Anderson on Thursday. Drachma (W. Doyle) came from behind to beat Equity (F. Power) by a couple of lengths, with Trebor (A. Foster) another length back, after five furlongs in Imin. 2 3-ssec., the last half-mile in 49 2-ssec. Drachma does not come in till the final day at Wanganui. The two-year-old Equity, an Inflation filly who had two starts early in the season, will resume racing at Carterton next month. Pearl of Asia (Bennet) led Beau Vile (Doyle) and Lady Drake (Foster) throughout a smart half-mile in 48 2-ssec., but there was not much between them at the end and Beau Vite was running on best. Both fillies are on the improve. Pearl of Asia will be ridden at Wanganui by S. T. Edwards and Lady Drake will have the services of J. Forsyth. Dissipation and Phil did not come over to the tracks till late in the morning, but they were to have done only solid pacing, as they leave for Wanganui early this morning. Royal Huntress, Mr. W. Higgins’ Safari —Joy Princess filly in Mrs. J. Campbell’s Riccarton stable, was due to arrive from the south yesterday morning and will be under J. W. Lowe’s care while in the North Island. She has been sent up because of a promising showing she made when having her first race in the C.J.C. Lyttelton Plate recently. She will be ridden by G. R. Tattersail, who will also be on Dissipation and Phil.
Other Engagements. A number of horses engaged at Carterton and later meetings were also galloped. Beau livre (H. Duncan) just led Sigurd (C. Burgess) throughout live furlongs in lmin. 2sec., the last halfmile in 48 3-ssec., and he pulled up ast hough he had never been above half-pace. His next start will probably be in the North Island Challenge Stakes at Trentham. Yours Truly (L. T. Nesbitt) ano Good Sun (R. L. Kitchen) ran over six furlongs pleasingly in lmin. 16sec., the last half-mile in 50sec. Dungarvan (A. W. Sim) was a length in front of Peerless (Doyle) after a mile in lmin. 43sec., the last half-mile in 51sec. Liane (A. Sager) did her last three furlongs in 37sec. Gothic (R. A. Hawkins) and Diareus (Sagar) were easing up al the end of half a mile in 50sec. Happy Heels (T. Briggs) was several lengths in front of Southern Blood (D. W. Bush) after running seven furlongs in lmin. 31sec., the last half-mile in 51 2-ssec. Lustral • Foster) beat Hinerawe (Bennet) by three lengths over seven furlongs in lmin. 32 3-ssec., the last halfmile in 53sec., but Hinerawe, who has been suffering from a cracked heel, and was having her first gallop for some time ,was not pushed out. some time, was not pushed out. half-sister by Defoe to Boughal (E. Burgess) went half a mile together in 51sec. Arctic King, who has been out having a short spell since the Wellington meeting last month, was put back into work yesterday morning. He has done particularly well during his holiday, and if he satisfactorily during the next month he will probably be taken south again to contest the Great Autumn Handicap. He will not be ready to race at the Wellington meeting next month.
