TRACK WORK
Wanganui Training Operations
TWO CLP CANDIDATES AMIGO PLEASES IN SPRINT The absence of visiting horses, save for the Hastings pair, Tiger Gain anc Jacynth, detracted from the interest usualy displayed in the final gallops and thus there was not much o! material interest in yesterday morning’s operations, which were carried out under ideal weather conditions. Some of the fast work was on number one track, but the greater part was on the course proper, on which the trestles were about 12 or 15ft. out. It was not what was revealed by the galloping but the likely scratchings which intrigued observers. Later in the morning there was news of the scratching of Beaupartir, Brazil and Chevychase, and later Aussie Ra was withdrawn from the Wanganui Cup, bringing the field for that event down to ten. As there is a suggestion of at least one further defection from the Cup. this would weaken the field considerably. Entail and Tiger Gain. Entail (S. T. Edwards) and Tiger Gain (Tracy) were to have done a Cup trial together ‘over a mile, but Entail was smartly on the move and when the watches were clicked he was a couple of lengths ahead of the Gainscourt gelding. They were still separated by this margin at the end of half a mile, left behind in 52sec., and then Entail came further away, eventually finishing half a dozen lengths in front in lmin. 44 l-ssec. Tiger Gain was not persevered with over the final stages when there was no chance of catching his companion, who was doing it nicely all the way. Entail will be ridden by Edwards in the Wanganui Cup. and probably Forsyth will be on Tiger Gain. Jacynth, a stable companion of Tiger Gain, trotted and cantered. The Grandcourt mare raced at Woodville last week and appears to have suffered no ill-effects. War Lap (Edwards) pleased by slipping over five furlongs by himself in 65 3-ssec, not being extended a,t any stage. The Lapidary gelding is engaged in the Tayforth Hack Handicap on Thursday and he will be ridden by Edwards, who was seen to advantage on him at Hawcra a fortnight ago. The gallops by Entail and War Lap were done on the course proper, but Submission (H. Horne) was on number one grass track and close in to the rails when she ran four furlongs in a tick over 48sec., the first two furlongs taking her a shade under 24 sec. She will be bracketed with Dynasty in the Juvenile Handicap on Thursday. Lady Hoariri, with J. Head in the saddle, jumped .wo hurdles cleanly and then came out to the course proper to gallop four furlongs in company with Darthura <Edwards). M. Horne was cr. Lady Hoariri, who was a shade behind her companion at the fir.sh in 50sec r<arch Ea-y (Home) was the only other to work fast on the course proper before breakfast, the Nightmarch filly covering four furlongs in 49 3-5 sec. She is engaged in the Kai Iwi Maiden Race and should ruri a good race. After Breakfast. The first to work fast after the breakfast interval was Baron Bold, who was sent live furlongs and left that distance behind in 62sec. The four-year-old Bold Baron gelding maybe a starter on Saturday, and he looks * n good order alter his successful trip to Opunake and Hawera. The Tryst and the three-year-old Lord Warden mare in Dwyer’s stable went three furlongs in 39sec. on the course proper After trotting on the inside Amatory (Edwards) was associated with Amigo (F. Bentley) in a good gallop over six furlongs on the outside of the cqurse proper. They registered lmin. 15sec, with Amigo two lengths in front. They took 49 2-ssec. for the first four furlong, and both were hitting out freely all the wav
