SWIMMING INSTRUCTION
DEMONSTRATION FILM INTEREST IN SCREENING MODERN METHODS EXPLANED The latest modern method of swimming instruction was demonstrated to officials of the “Learn-to-Swim Campaign" in Wanganui at the Intermediate School, last night, when a film produced by the National Committee of Swimming and Life-Saving and entitled “It’s Easy to Swim,” was screened. This film is to be screened in schools throughout the district and will prove a valuable contribution to the campaign. The film was taken in the beautiful Auckland tepid baths, the demonstrator being Zita Leitch, aged 10 years. Firstly, the various exercises which instil confidence in the pupil are shown, and then the action of floating, the secret of which is relaxation. In an entertaining sequence, the correct breathing is demonstrated and finally the leg and arm action and co-ordination of movement which contributes toward perfect balance of the body. Keen interest was displayed in the screening of the fielm by a large number of teachers .together with some of the honorary instructors who I are giving their services during the campaign in Wanganui. I Expressing confidence that the film, I when displayed in the schools, would ! stimulate interest in swimming, Mr. J. B. Cotterill, M.P., who is chairman I of the district committee of the Naitional Committee of Swimming and i Life-Saving, suggested that parents would be well advised to see that their children were enabled to attend at least one screening of the film.
