PHYSICAL FITNESS WEEK

WANGANUI CELEBRATIONS SECONDARY SCHOOLS’ DAY TO-MORROW Although to-day has been listed as an “off day" in the celebration of Physical Fitness Week, in Wanganui, the Learn-to-Swim Campaign will still be in progress and the promoters are inviting the city to strive for a record number of learners during the period. To-morrow will be secondary schools’ day. To-morrow's activities will be: Demonstration of folk dancing and drill at the Girls’ College 2 to 4 p.m., demonstration of outdoor exercises at the convent grounds; cricket match at the Collegiate School between the School XI and Mr. A. S. Wilder’s team from Hawke's Bay; first half of the annual swimming sports of the Wanganui Technical College at the Gonvil'ie baths. On Thursday night the big physical fitness demonstration and procession organised by the civic authorities will take place. The procession, in charge of Colonel F. K. Turnbull, will assemble in lower Victoria Avenue, the head of the parade opposite the Bank of New South Wales. The time of assembly is to be 7 p.m. The order of the procession will be: Wanganui Highland Pipe Band, Technical College platoon, St. John Ambulance, Girl Guides, Queen’s Own Band, Boy Scouts. Y.M.C.A., Castlecliff Surf Section, Rowing Clubs (float), Miss Healy’s pupils, Women’s Basketball Association, Athletic and Cycling Club, Everywoman’s Health Centre (float), Wanganui Sword Club, Miss Matthew’s pupils, Pirates Football Club (float). Since that order was framed the Ruapehu Ski Club has entered a float, which will be alloted a place by the chief marshal. Others who desire to enter will be accepted by Mr. A. L. Rounthwaite up until noon to-mor-row. The march will begin at 7.30 p.m. and the route will be: Avenue, Guyton Street, Nelson Street to Cook’s Gardns. On the oval a specially arranged programme will be adhered to. There will be 19 items.
