TAIHAPE SHOW

THURSDAY’S ATTRACTION LARGE ENTRIES RECEIVED FOR BIG EVENT (Own Correspondent) TAIHAPE, Feb. 20. Everything is in readiness for the annual show of the Rangitikei A. and P. Association, which will be held on the Recreation Ground, Taihape, on Thursday, February 23. Entries total 1155 with more to come, so that when late entries have been received there is every prospect of last year's total ot 1184 being reached or exceeded. The total entries in 1937 were 1009, compared with 1451 in 1936, which marked the silver jubilee of the association. The entries for the 1939 show reveal an increase in the foliowing sections: Draught horse classes, competitions, cattle, sheep, and home industries. The figures are as follow, last year’s entries being given in parentheses for purposes of comparison: Draught horses 12 (3), harness horses 1 (1), saddle horses 144 (150), ponies 70 (84), competitions 124 (104), cattle 69 (65), sheep 301 (248), pigs 4 (nil), vegetables 100 (172), home industries 302 (191), needlework 98 (127). Owing to adverse weather conditions the entries in the vegetable classes reveal a slight decrease, this being compensated for by the big increase in the home industries section. The large increase in the sheep classes is also a matter for congratulation. The horse jumping competitions are always a feature of the show, and with entries in this section totalling 124, some excellent jumping should be witnessed. Sideshows galore will be in attendance, and patrons who are not interested in the stock will find much to attract them in sideshow alley. It only remains for the fine weather to continue and the success of the 1939 show is assured. A floodlight sports meeting will be held at night, the programme including a relay race between the army versus the rest.
