OPAKU SCHOOL PICNIC

(Own Correspondent). PATEA, Feb. 20. Bathing and sports were enjoyed by a large number of parents and children who were present at the Opaku School picnic at the Patea beach on Saturday. Mr. H. Millar, chairman of the school committee before presenting the prizes paid tribute to the Waverley Swimming Club and Ihe Waverley Bath Committee who had helped the Opaku School children in connection with the “Learn to Swim week." Mr. E. J. Hemingway chairman of the Wanganui Education Board also spoke. Results of Sports were:—Senior Boys: A. Milne 1, K. Miller 2, T. Hodder 3. Junior Boys: P. Greenhill 1, R Marchant 2, A. Edgecombe 3. Girls: Hazel Meyer 1, Nola Milne 2, Valerie Edgecombe 3. Consolation Race (boys): R. Marchant; (girls): V. Edgecombe. Old Girls’ Race: P. Milne and D. Daniell 1. Married Women's Race: Mrs. J. Hurley. Married Men’s Race: J. Hurley.
