RIFLE SHOOTING (Own Correspondent) PATEA, Feb. 20. Visitors were present from Hawera. and Kaponga for a practice shoot on Saturday with the following results:— J. Huston 49, D. Roots 48. R. Shephard 47, C. Hilliar 47, J. McCarthy 45, J. Izitt 45, L. Davidson 45, J. Bates 43, I. Brunton 43, K. Stone 42. G. Parker 42, G. Hilliar 41. E. C. Gilbert 40, T. Floyd 40, A. Bond 37, S. Spindler 32, D. Mays 24, R. Langslow 24. FITNESS WEEK Fitness Week was opened in Patea last Saturday alternoon, with a parade by the Girl Guides and Boy Scouts to the Domain headed by the band. The Mayor, Mr. E. F. Hemingway, declared the week open, stating that the idea was not to make people fit in one week, but to call the attention of all to the need in the interests of the nation, for ail to be physically fit. An excellent gymnastic display was given by the gym. class under Lieut. McKay. . On Thursday next an excellent opportunity is being given for the public to witness the popular game of badminton, when a display is to be given in the school hall by teams from Taranaki and Wanganui, including representative players.
