CASTLECLIFF CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING HELD ELECTION OF OFFICERS The annual general meeting of ti-.e Castlecliff ■ Golf Club was held last night, the retiring president, Mr. R. R. Dawson, being in the chair. The president’s annual report, which was adopted, was as follows: The balance-sheet again reveals a very satisfactory position. Under income and expenditure the working profit for the year amounts to £440 or some £4O in excess of the previous year. All sources of revenue showed increases. The committee has endeavoured to conserve the funds consistant with reasonable expenditure. The committee have been able to reduce the mortgage by a payment of £3OO. It is interesting to note the yearly increase in green-fees. The first year of the links £3l 5s was collected, till to-day the amount collected was £135 12s 6d. During the year a great deal of development work has been carried out, and as a result the general maintenance has not been kept up to standard. This will be rectified this coming season. A new fairway mower has been purchased and in future the fairways will be kept in better order. Some 3000 trees have been planted and in spite of the unfavourable weather conditions the trees are doing well. The tree-plant-ing is a problem as the sea spray seems to take heavy toll. Programmes have been issued for the Easter tournament and we hope that the weather will be more kind to use than last year. It is also proposed to hold a championship fixture at the Labour Day week-end. In conclusion the president thanked the committee and members for the loyal support and assistance that they had rendered to the club. He trusted that the enthusiasm which was sq apparent would prevail, in which case a high standard of development would, he said, be reflected on the links within a very few years.
The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — President, Mr. E. A. Millward; vicepresident, Mr. W. C. Curtis; captain, Mr. A. W. Brown; vice-captain, Mr. M. G. Bignell; hon. secretary, Mr. F. W. Wagstaff; hon. treasurer, Mr. E. K. Rabone; committee of three, Messrs. R. R. Dawson, L. G. King and R. Moore; hon. auditor, Mr. J. A. Lee.
A vote of thanks to the retiring officers was carried by acclamation, and also a very hearty vote of thanks to the Press.
