Gen- | eral Franco sent a Note to the Frencn Foreign Office pointing out t'»at the activities of the republican leaders at : the Paris Embassy violated the pnnj ciple of asylum. Seventy-nine republican officers were collectively fined £90,500 for receiving smuggled jewels and gold ! from Spain.

The food situation in the territories recently occupied by the Spanish na- ' tionalists in Catalonia is under the constant consideration of the International Commission for Spanish Child l!:ru”ees, and the chairman of the Commission. Judge Hansen, of Norway, and the food controller for Spain, Mr. Kershaw, of the United States, have gone to Burgos to discuss the provision of supplies with the nationalist authorities. They will also meet the Infanta Beatrice, who is prominently con- ■ nected with the relief organisation jn I nationalist Spain. The Commission has .just arranged I for some 200 tons of condensed milk ' to be sent to Barcelona.
