Bl SINESS OF THE MONTH (Own Correspondent! BULLS, Feb. 17. The monthly meeting of the Bulk Town Board was heia on Thursday evening. Present: Cmrs. J. E. Walker (cnairman), W. Kearney, F. A. Holland, D. Lundy and J. J. Mansell. Foreman S. Howard reported that during the month footpaths and water-tables had been cleaned in Upper Bridge and Lower High Streets; grass had been mowed on the Domain, at the cemetery, and at the yards. Plots had been cleaned at the cemetery, and hedges clipped and paths mowed. Firebreaks were ploughed at the Domain plantation, and trees cut up.—A discussion followed regarding the efficiency of the chemical fire-extinguishers, and the foreman was instructed to examine .them weekly and keep them in good order. Correspondence. The Bulls-Oha-kea Sports Club applied to make charges for the Domain on sports day.—Granted. The Waitara Borough Council forwarded a circular letter re model by-laws.—Received. The Feilding Borough Council wrote re contributions to the Wellington Provincial memorial at Petone.— Held over until next meeting, when the result of a meeting held in Ftiiuing that evening would be known. The secretary, N.Z. Centennial Exhibition wrote re contribution to the Exhibition fund. —Resolved to forward the board’s quota. A firm of funeral furnishers wrote, asking for a signpost to be erected in Greatford Road showing the turn off to the cemetery.—For the direction of outside directors it was agreed that the local representative oi the Auiom.ibile Association be consulted in regard to the signpost. Health Report.—lnspector W. S. Steele reported as follows for the quarter ended December 31, 1938: ’The incidence of infectious diseases has been very low, no notifications having been received. Milk samples laken for analysis have proven to be •satisfactory, and similar sampks taken for reductase test indicated that the milk was of good quality. Several water samples have been taken for chemical analysis, the results of which indicated some degree of pollution. Further samples were taken for bacteriological examination, the results disclosing the presence of bacillus coli in the smallest dilution examined. This indicates that the water from these sources is of doubtful, if not dangerous quality. Further systematic sampling of private water supplies will be carried out in the near future. Plumbing and drainage works have been inspected as the opportunity presented itself, and these have been found to be satisfactory.” Sanitary inspections made totalled 22 (habitations 12, food-sel-lers’ premises 5, plumbing and drainage b). Samples of water taken showed indication oi pollution (2?, and presence of bacillus coli (2).’ The report was received. Transfers of property were approved as follows:- r rom the Rang.likei County Council to S. Sm»ui; from the e«state late J. W. Brougaton to V. M. and E. M. Broughton; and from F. F. Ralfe to L Petersen. Finance. Collections for the monln were: Rates, £259 8s; rents, ila 13.< heavy traffic fees, £1 5s 6d; libiaiy suascriptions, £2 6s 9d; library rcnl..., 12 4s; Domain, £26 Is 9d; total, £3‘»'i 4s. Accounts were passed for payment under the following headings: District fund, £lBB 9s sd; library, zIG 3s Id; Domain. £2 8s 3d. Cms. Holland, Kearney and Lundy were appointed Works Comm.ttee for the ensuing month. GENERAL NEWS The Buils-Ohakea sports meeting will be held on Bulls Domain tins afternoon, the programme commencing at 12.30 p.m. Visitors to Bulls yesterday included Mr. and Mrs. Gavin Wilson, of Wellington, who are on a motor camping tour of the North Island. Mr. Wilson was a police constable here for many years, and also at Waitotara.
