WIN FOR WANGANUI TKIAM.I I.AK BOWLING CONTEST The Wanganui Bowling Club yes. lerday wrested Ihe Duthie Cup from the possession of the Lower Hutt Club, in the annual tournament, which was played on the Wanganui Club's green. Lower Hutt, were last tear’s winners ot the trophy, which was presented 31 years ago by the late Mr. John Duthie for a triangular competition between the Wanganui, Louer Hutt and Wellington Clubs. Each club was represented by two rinks, the club securing the most points in two games being the winners of the cup. Keen interest was aroused in the concluding stages of the contest, for when London, skip for one of the Wanganui rinks, had sent down his last bowl, Hendry, one of the Lower Hutt skips, required a three to tie and retain the trophy. However, one was all he could get and that meant possession of the cup for Wanganui. Among yesterday's players in respective rinks were three who had played in the first game for the trophy 31 years ago. They were Messrs. W. Hendry '.Lower Hutt>, W. Berry (Wellington> and F. Jones (Wanganui). The weather yesterday was fine but a strong, gusty wind swept the green, making accurate drawing a little difficult. However, some good play was seen on the green, which was in excellent order. Three games were played in the morning, resulting as follows: - F. Jones. O. Allomes, J. McFarlane, A. P. London (Wanganui) 32, won from R. Reynolds, A. Fletcher. R. Laurie, J. A~. O'Donnell (Wellington) E. J. Guiness. T. N. Norris. J. Davidson, W. Hendry (Lower Hutt) 23, won from W. Berry, E. McKenzie, S. Potter, H. Mayer (Wellington) 20. J. Keir, H. Brooks, R. Y. Shearer, H. G. Teagle (Lower Hutt) 22. won from O. Hales. F. Treloar, W. Stone. A. Crawford (Wanganui! 20. The afternoon games resulted as follow: — London (Wanganui) 19. won from Hendry (Lower Hutt) 17. Crawford (Wanganui) 35, won from Mayer (Wellington) 20. o'Donnell (Wellington) 24, won from Teagle (Lower Hutt) 18.
