TAIHAPE NEWS

COSTUMES FOR BASEBALL PLAYERS. (Own Correspondent.) TAIHAPT, Feb. 15. “Baseball players in Taihape don’t wear costumes as yet,” declared Mr. F. Fisher when the subject of all participants in the parade of athletes wearing the costume characteristic of their particular branch of sport was being discussed. A voice: I thought they wore knickerbockers? Mr. Fisher: When we learn to play the game properly we might be promoted to knickerbockers. (Laughter.) Church Collection. The subject of a church parade was under discussion at a meeting of the Physical Fitness Week last evening when a member stated that he would be unable to attend as he had made arrangements for a mountaineering trip on the date in question. “That is all right,” remarked the Mayor (Mr. L. B. H. de Lautour). “You can leave your contribution to the collection behind.” Loud laughter greeted His Worship's remark. Popular Theme Song. It has been suggested that a popular theme song after the style of "Colonel Bogey” should be composed for Physical Fitness Week. This will give budding composers an opportunity of displaying their talent, and perhaps making the first step along the road to fame and fortune. Taihape composers are advised to get busy right away on the idea. Who knows what latent talent there might be in our midst.
