ON WANGANUI TRACKS

LOCAL JUVENILES SPRINT YESTERDAY’S OPERATIONS Sprints by two Wanganui juveniles engaged at the Woodville meeting and by another engaged at the Wanganui meeting provided the only outstanding features of the track operations yesterday morning. The weather was fine and the track, after iight rain, was in good order, the showers doing little more than take the sting out of the ground. Number one grass track was used for the fast work. Rayner's two candidates for Woodville, Portal (W. Rayner) and Dynasty (F. Latham) were associated in a spin over four furlongs, but they were not pushed right out, registering 49 2-osec. after taking 24 l-ssec. for the first two furlongs. Portal will be a runner in the Sapling Stakes to-day and Dynasty is to sport silk in to-morrow’s juvenile race. Submission, with M. Horne in the saddle, registered a smart half-mile in a shade over 48sec. The boy is only a featherweight but the filiy was doing it nicely and must be regarded as having a good chance in the Juvenile Handicap at Wanganui, though she has to concede weight to all but Baran. L. G. Butler sent his pair, Darthura (M. Horne) and March Easy (S. T. Edwards) over five furlongs on the outside of the course proper, the pair taking 65sec. They were not stretched right out over the last four furlongs, which took them a shade over 52sec. War Lap, who won convincingly at Hawera, was given a good working gallop over five furlongs. Lady Hoariri was let off with long, easy pacework. She is to have her first race over hurdles on the concluding day at Wanganui.
