(From Our Own Correspondents.) PATEA. Mrs. Harold Moore and Master Brian Moore have returned from Taihape. Mr. and Mrs. W. Kelly are away on holidays. Mrs. H. Jowett, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. R. W. Haclclow. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Tompkins, New Plymouth, have been guests of Miss G. Tompkins. Mrs. J. McCarty returns on Saturday from Auckland. Mrs. J. R. C. Smith has returned from Wellington. Miss N. Christie, of the nursing staff of the Patea Public Hospital is the guest of her aunt, Mrs. W. McCarty, Tataramika. Dr. Phyllis Moir has been inspecting the Patea Public School. Miss G. Tompkins, Plunket Nurse, was the guest of the Kakaramea branch on Monday,’ when the president, Mrs. Hobbs, presented her with a leather writing case. Little June Pearce presented Miss Tompkins with a lovely bouquet. MARTON Mr. and Mrs. A. Grade returned to Marlon yesterday after a holiday at Rotorua. TAIHAPE. The many friends of Mrs. L. B. H. de Lautour will be pleased to learn that she is making good progress towards recovery after her recent illness. Mrs. F. Bader is on a holiday visit to Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. F. Smith, Moa Street, are visiting friends in Christchurch. Gloria Moss, of Taihape, wort the Highland dancing championship at the Tokaanu sports recently. She gained two firsts and the championship. Greta Smith secured five firsts and two seconds. Audrey Rae gained four seconds and two thirds, and Hettie May one second. Guests at the Gretna Hotel, Taihape, last evening included the following: Commissioner of Police. Mr. D. J. Cummings. Wellington; Superintendent J. Lander. Wanganui; Major-General J. E. Duigan, Officer Commanding the New Zealand Defence Forces, Colonci E. Puttick, Officer Commanding the Central Military District, Colonel Saunders, Major Parkinson, Wellington; Mr. Hooper, Auckland; Mr. and Mrs. Gray and daughter, Pukerua Bay, Wellington; Mr. and Mrs. Green and daughter. Wellington; Mr. Gillies (chauffeur to the Commissioner of Police); Mrs. Wallace and child. Te Awamutu. On Wednesday evening Mr. E. Hodson, who has severed his connection with the Shell Oil Company to take up another position, was entertained by a party of friends and presented with a pewter as c small token of esteem. Mr. Hodson’s resignation took effect on Wednesday. BULLS Mr. Frank Stevens is spending a holiday in Auckland. Mr. Ken. Scott has’gone to the Bay of Islands for deep sea fishing. Mr. Les. Hillier is spending his annual holidays with relatives in Bulls. Mrs. G. Webber, who under went a serious operation in Wanganui on Wednesday, is reported to be slightly improved, though still very ill. Mrs. H. Flower has gone to Wellington to attend the wedding of her son. Mr. Ronald Flower. Mr. Alex. Cole left yesterday Io spend a holiday with relatives in Christchurch. Mr. R. Briggs, of Greatford Road, has been appointed farm manager to the Stratford Racing Club, and Mr. and Mrs. Briggs and family leave during the week-end for {heir new home.
