ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW FLIGHTS NEW PLYMOUTH AND HASTINGS WELLINGTON, Feb. 15. The Minister in Charge of Aviation, Hon. F. Jones, stated to-day that Cabinet had approved of the strengthening of the Wellington Territorial Squadron by the establishment of flights at New Plymouth and Hastings and the strengthening of the Dunedin Territorial Squadron by the establishment of a flight at Invercargill. Approval had also been given to the strengthening of the Auckland and Christchurch Squadrons. The success of the scheme initiated in 1937 for ’-aining young men as a special reserve for coastal defence was also referred to by Mr. Jones, who commented upon the splendid results ob'ained in both military and vocational training. In all 568 men had been trained. Of these 354 were posted ot special territorial coast defence units and 127 were selected for permanent employment, as regular soldiers or airmen.
