EXECUTIVE MEETING OF WOMEN'S INSTITUTES At a meeting of the executive of the Ruapehu Federation of Women’s Institutes, Mrs. Dellow presided over a good attendance of members. An apology from Mrs. Travena was the only o.ne received. The ladies present were Mesdames Transom, Bosher. Sinnot, Hardie, Brook, Murdoch. Pairman and Speedy. The date of the next annual meeting was fixed for the end of April. The meeting is to be held in the Presbyterian Hall, Taihape, and institutes are to be circularised re nominations for the federation executive. Miss Kane will be the speaker on this occasion and institute members should take this onportunity of meeting and hearing their Dominion president. Correspondence from institutes re garden party and drama festival was discussed and it was decided Io hold a garden party at Ohakune on March 11. the final arrangements to be left in Mrs. Hardie’s hands. The drama festival is to be held in Taihape in July and institutes are to be notified; that a cup has been donated and will be competed for on that occasion. A petition, signed by 25 Maori women of Pipiriki. asking that an institute be formed there, was read and it was decided that the voluntary organiser. accompanied by several members of the executive, should visit Pipiriki on Saturday. February 18, and form the institute. Institutes were also to be reminded , of their own annual meetings and ‘hat nominations for federation execu- i tive must be in by March 31. The gathering will | take place in Hatrick’s Hall, and it is expected that there will be present the Ru.'pehu District Federation officers, Mrs. Dellow, Mrs. Speedy, Mrs. Murdock and Mrs. Transom, accompanied by Mr. Transom. For several weeks, in preparation ; lor the official opening, dances and ' euchre tournaments have been held. Gast Saturday, at the final card evening, the aggregate prizes for the past lour weeks were presented to the /. inners as follows:—The first prize for women went to Mrs. R. Gray (a salad set), second to Mrs. Rangi-Kaho (two salad bowls). The first prize for men (a set of hair brushes) was won by Mr. Alan Hagley, the second prize (three pairs of sox) went to Mr. C. Tauri. Points prizes: Mrs. Steve Mokonui 1, Mrs. Rangi-Kaho 2; (men), B. Robertson 1, M. Tauri 2. Mrs. Rangi-Kaho 1, Mrs. D. Hcnarc (men), C. Tauri 1, P. Turner 2. The hostesses were Mesdames Anderson and Henare. The evening terminated with the singing of the National Anthem.
