TENNIS MATCH
RAETIHI v. OHAKUNE (Own Correspondent) RAETIHI, Feb. 14. On Sunday a team representing the Raetihi Tennis Club visited Taumarunui and, under perfect weather conditions, contested a match against the Taumarunui Club's side. The Raetihi team was not at full strength owing to counter-attractions and had to call upon a veteran or two to complete the side. On the day’s play the home side emerged comfortable victors and are to be congratulated on reversing last year's defeat.
The results are as follows, Raetihi players being mentioned first:— Men's Singles.—Bryers lost to Cross, 6-9; Colthart defeated Rigby, 9-2; McBride defeated Phillips, 9-7;'Gould lost to Kirton, 8-9; Keucke lost to Tuffey, 1-9; Sims lost to Webb, 7-9; Richards defeated Tullock, 9-4.
Ladies’ Singles.—Mrs. Towler lost to Mrs. Gawler, 2-7; Miss Burrell lost to Mrs. White, 2-7; Mrs. Sandford lost to Mrs. Webb, 6-7; Miss L, Eyes lost to Miss Dawson, 2-7; Mrs. Colthart defeated Miss Harris, 7-2; Miss Marshall lost to Miss Barker, 0-7; Miss B. Eyes lost to Miss Dunn, 5-7.
Men's Doubles.—Bryers and Colthart defeated Cross and Rigley, 9-5; Mcßride and Sims lost to Phillips and Kirton, 7-9; Gould and Keucke lost to Tuffey and Webb, 4-9. Ladies’ Doubles.—Miss Burrell and Mrs. Towler lost to Mesdames Gawler and White, 5-7; Mrs. Sandford and Miss L. Eyes lost to Mrs. Webb and Miss Dawson, 5-7; Mrs. Colthart and Miss Marshall defeated Misses Harris and Barker, 7-4.
Combined Doubles.—Bryers and Miss L. Eyes defeated Cross and Mrs. Gawler, 9-5; Colthart and Miss Burrell defeated Rigley and Mrs. Webb, 9-6; Sims and Mrs. Towler lost to Kirton and Mrs. White, 5-9; Mcßride and Mrs. Colthart defeated Phillips and Miss Dawson, 9-8; Gould and Mrs. Sandford lost to Tuffey and Miss Harris, 4-9; Keucke and Miss Marshall lost to Webb and Miss Barker, 5-9; Richards and Miss B. Eyes lost to Tulloch and Miss Dunn, 3-9. At the conclusion of the match, complimentary remarks were exchanged by Messrs. Colthart (Raetihi) and Webb (Taumarunui.
The visitors were hospitably entertained with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea by the Taumarunnl players and departed after having enjoyed a match in which the social side of the visit was dominent.
