JAPANESE OCCUPATION OF HAINAN BRITISH REPRESENTATIONS AT TOKIO Received Feb. 14, 10.55 p.m. TOKIO, Feb. 14. The British Ambassador, Sir Robert Craigie, made representations to the Foreign Minister regarding the Japanese occupation of Hainan Island. Sir Robert Craigie received the same assurance as the French Ambassador yesterday when the Foreign Minister, Mr. Arita, told him that Japan had no territorial designs on Hainan and would occupy the island only so long as it was militarily necessary.
