SAVAGE’S APPEAL UPHELD
THE .FOOTLOOSE CASE STRATFORD INCIDENT (Special to "Chronicle.” I NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 11. The Taranaki District Committee to-night upheld the appeal of the Jockey R. W. Savage against the two months’ suspension inflicted on him by the judicial committee of the Stratford Racing Club. The suspension which has now been lifted was imposed by the judicial committee of the Stratford Racing Club following an inquiry into an incident which occurred at the start of the Kaponga Hack Handicap, the concluding event at tne Stratford meeting on January 3. Footloose, ridden by Savage, was drawn to start from number 8 position at the barrier but actually started from the rails position and won comfortably. The starter, Mr. D. J. Guiney, reported on his return to the official enclosure, that he had fined Savage £5 for taking an unfail advantage at the start. The judicial committee met later in the month and further suspended Savage for two months.
