GATHERING AT KAI IWI MR. AND MRS. ERVINE HONOURED (Own Correspondent). KAI IWI, Feb. 14. A social farewell party was held in the Kai Iwi Town Hall on Thursday last in honour of Mr. and Mrs. L. Ervine, who are leaving the district at an early date. Dances interspersed with items, proved a great success as indicated by the applause of the many friends and visitors present. Vocal items were rendered by Misses L. Te Tue, J. Stevens, and Geo. Tui, and Master Buddy Bennett. Other items were also popular. Mr. C. Morrison, who conducted the evening's entertainment, made a presentation on behalf of the residents of Kai Iwi, of a vacuum cleaner, beautiful Maori baskets and a spear (taiaha). He remarked, in the course of his speech, that during the 25 years of Mr. and Mrs. Ervine s residence in Kai Iwi the district had shown many improvements, due to the sagacity and financial aid that Mr. Ervine had always given. Musical honours were accorded the guests and an enjoyable supper was served. Dancing continued till a late hour. Mr. E. Te Tue supplied excellent music and accompanied many ot the songs.
